An implant-supported bar prosthesis (overdenture on bar) is a removable prosthetic option clipped onto a custom-made titanium or chrome-cobalt bar that joins 2–4 implants. It is the most popular “middle way” between a classic removable denture and a fixed hybrid prosthesis. The bar is a metal framework custom-made for the patient's oral anatomy and screw-retained on the implants. Special attachments (Locator, Hader bar, Dolder bar) are housed inside the denture and clip firmly onto the bar. The patient can remove and clean the prosthesis themselves, but thanks to the bar it sits firmly in the mouth, does not slip and creates an entirely natural feel during eating. Key advantages: significantly more comfortable than a classic removable denture — no need for a suction effect; no slipping; chewing efficiency restored to 60–70% (vs. 20–30% in a classic denture, 80–90% in a hybrid); easier hygiene — the prosthesis is removed and washed, the bar is professionally cleaned; requires fewer implants (2–4) — more budget-friendly than a fixed prosthesis. Ideal for: complete restoration of the lower jaw (particularly effective), patients with limited bone volume and those for whom a hybrid prosthesis is out of budget. Treatment protocol: 2–4 implants, 3–6 months of osseointegration, bar fabrication and prosthesis assembly (3–4 visits). Service life of 15+ years; attachments may be replaced every 2–3 years.
