Rebond (Bracket Re-bonding)

Rebond (Bracket Re-bonding)

Rebond (bracket re-bonding) is the re-attachment of a detached or damaged bracket to a tooth during orthodontic treatment. It is one of the most common small problems during orthodontic care. Bracket detachment usually happens due to hard foods (nuts, bone-in meat, raw apples, popcorn), sometimes trauma or excessive pulling forces during the original bonding. Important — when a bracket comes off you should contact the dentist immediately because: 1) Without the bracket, tooth movement in that area stops or may go in the wrong direction; 2) Even when a loose bracket does not injure the tongue or cheek, food debris accumulates beneath it and increases caries risk; 3) If not done promptly, orthodontic treatment time stretches and the result suffers. At BadamDent rebonding is performed on the same day and takes only a short time: a thorough check (to understand why the bracket came off), cleaning and preparation of the tooth surface, application of a modern adhesive system (3M Transbond or equivalent), bracket placement in the precise original position (in rebonding it is important to restore the original location, as the tooth may have rotated slightly on average), reattaching the archwire and checking the occlusion. The whole process takes 20–30 minutes. The orthodontic treatment schedule is not disrupted. In some cases a regular activation visit can be combined on the same day. For BadamDent orthodontic patients, rebonding is usually provided free of charge (included in the treatment package). To minimise future detachments, hygiene and dietary recommendations are reviewed again.
