Orthodontic Plate

Orthodontic Plate

An orthodontic plate is a removable appliance used to correct jaw shape and dental arch in children and teenagers. It is the main tool of early orthodontic intervention (interceptive orthodontics) and is applied between ages 6 and 12, before all permanent teeth have erupted. This age range is crucial — the child's jaw is still actively developing and corrections are highly effective. Plates come in two main types: 1) Expansion plate with a Hyrax screw — widens a narrow jaw and addresses lack of space between teeth; 2) Corrective plate — with a lingual or palatal element guiding specific teeth into the correct position. Material: high-quality acrylic base and stainless-steel clasps/screws. The plate is worn and removed by the patient themselves — making hygiene and eating easier. Recommended daily wear: 18–20 hours (removed only during meals and brushing). Treatment protocol at BadamDent: detailed orthodontic diagnostics (panoramic film, cephalometry, clinical examination, diagnostic models), fabrication of a custom plate (10–14 days), try-in and usage instructions, follow-up visits every 4–6 weeks and a screw-turning protocol (the parent is taught). Treatment duration: 6–18 months (depending on the complexity of the problem). Early treatment prevents many orthodontic problems — reducing or even eliminating the need for braces later. Plates are also cost-effective.
