Orthodontic Mini Implant

Orthodontic Mini Implant

An orthodontic mini implant (TAD — Temporary Anchorage Device, OrthoImplant, Tomas pin) is a small titanium screw temporarily placed in bone to create an anchorage point during tooth movement. Diameter: 1.4–2.0 mm, length: 6–12 mm — many times smaller than a regular dental implant. A revolutionary tool of modern orthodontics that dramatically increases treatment effectiveness in complex cases. Classic anchorage points (neighbouring teeth) can move and complicate treatment; a mini implant is a completely stable anchor — tooth movement is precisely controlled. Clinical applications include: tooth intrusion (moving a tooth into the bone), distalisation of a single tooth, tooth displacement (e.g., positioning crowded canines), molar uplift, closure of open bite and asymmetric cases. Placement is not a surgical procedure — it takes 5–10 minutes. Under local anaesthesia a small incision (1–2 mm) is made in the gum, a pilot drill prepares the bone site and the screw is inserted manually or with an instrument. It can be loaded immediately as an anchorage point. After treatment (6–12 months) it is removed using the same painless technique — the bone fully heals with no trace. Hypoallergenic titanium is used. Infection risk is 5–7%, but is minimised with antibacterial rinses and proper hygiene. At BadamDent mini implants from Tomas and Dual Top brands are used.
