A mouthguard (night guard or sports) is a clear or coloured flexible tray that protects the teeth from various forms of damage. Two main types are available: 1) Night guard (occlusal splint) — for patients with bruxism (night-time clenching or grinding of teeth). Bruxism affects 10–15% of the world's population and, untreated, leads to rapid tooth wear, anterior tooth cracks, pain, headaches, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems and facial muscle pain. A night guard prevents wear of the tooth surfaces and reduces muscle tone. Worn every night before sleep and removed in the morning; 2) Sports mouthguard — for athletes in contact sports (boxing, MMA, rugby, football, basketball, hockey). It prevents dental trauma, lip lacerations, tongue injuries and even some forms of concussion. Modern sports mouthguards come in American style (NCAA standard) or multilayer (boxing grade). At BadamDent both types are custom-made from impressions — unlike universal pharmacy guards, custom devices fit each patient's dental anatomy 100%, are comfortable and do not interfere with breathing or speech. Fabrication protocol: detailed clinical examination, intraoral scan or precise impression, fabrication in the laboratory using thermoforming or CAD/CAM (3–5 days), fitting. Material: soft or semi-rigid EVA polymer. Patients are taught regular cleaning and storage rules. Service life 2–3 years, then it can be replaced.
