Pediatric root canal treatment is an important method for treating baby teeth with deep caries or pulpitis, to avoid premature tooth loss. Baby teeth preserve space for permanent teeth, and losing them early can cause orthodontic problems, incorrect eruption of the permanent tooth and aesthetic issues. Whenever possible, saving the tooth is recommended. At BadamDent two main pediatric endodontic methods are used: 1) Pulpotomy — removal of the infected coronal portion of the pulp while preserving the root canals, with placement of a special biological material (MTA — Mineral Trioxide Aggregate, Biodentine, formocresol). It is the most widely used method, with a 90–95% success rate; 2) Pulpectomy — complete cleaning of the root canals and filling with a resorbable paediatric paste (ZOE — zinc-oxide eugenol, calcium-hydroxide-based). These pastes dissolve along with the natural root resorption when the permanent tooth erupts, so they do not interfere with eruption. Treatment protocol: the child is first prepared with Tell-Show-Do, local anaesthesia (a dedicated paediatric protocol, with topical gel first), rubber dam, careful removal of infected tissue, canal disinfection, placement of the biological material and a coronal restoration (composite filling or a stainless-steel/zirconia paediatric crown). Treatment is usually completed in a single 40–60 minute session; complex cases may require two visits. After treatment the child receives a reward and a photo protocol is given to the parents. With proper hygiene the tooth serves trouble-free until the permanent tooth erupts.
