Pediatric fillings are the primary method for treating childhood caries. At BadamDent we use composite or glass-ionomer materials specifically designed for children, available in colourful options (young patients love them!) or transparent (GC Fuji IX, Helio Progress, Twinky Star, Vitremer). These materials differ from adult fillings in several important ways: 1) They release fluoride — preventing secondary decay and strengthening enamel; 2) They set more quickly — children cannot keep their mouths open for long periods; 3) Colourful options (Twinky Star) motivate children to maintain hygiene — silver, gold, pink, blue colours; 4) Low elastic modulus — matching the flexibility of baby teeth. Treatment protocol at BadamDent: the child is first prepared using Tell-Show-Do, with instruments explained playfully. Local anaesthesia is used — for children a sweet-flavoured topical gel (TAC, Lidostesin) is applied so the injection is not felt. Careful caries removal (gentle enzymatic methods such as Carisolv are used when needed), cavity preparation, placement of the filling material and polishing. Treatment usually takes 30–45 minutes and is completed in a single session. After treatment the child receives a reward. The family is taught correct hygiene habits. A baby-tooth filling lasts until the natural exchange (up to 10–12 years of age).
