Straumann SLActive (Switzerland) is the most advanced hydrophilic active surface in the Straumann portfolio. This revolutionary technology, introduced in 2005, is based on storing the implant in a special environment (nitrogen atmosphere, isotonic saline solution) that keeps the surface fully active and chemically energised. The classic SLA surface is hydrophobic (water-repelling); SLActive is super-hydrophilic — blood and proteinaceous fluids instantly adhere to it, accelerating the arrival of blood components and healing cells, thereby reducing osseointegration time from 6–8 weeks to just 3–4 weeks. This delivers two key advantages: first, overall treatment time is shortened by about 2 months and early-loading protocols become safer.
